Hey I'm Looking to buy a set of overheads for my home studio. Anyone got any reccomendations for affordable looking around 200-300 per mic.

Thanks,

Steve-o

The fat heads are great. be aware the original fat heads are cheaper and the only differences between those and the fat head II's are purely cosmetic. They work well as room mics in the blumlein configuration, but I usually use them as overheads because they prevent the cymbals from getting harsh or shrill. They take EQ extremely well, and because of their deep, warm sound, I highly recommend high pass filtering to your taste between 150-220 Hz otherwise the drum mix can sound muddy. With that cut tho, and a slight shelf boost around 7k it allows the cymbals to be bright and the direct mics on kick snare and toms to punch through really well. Hope this helps.

A great idea that a lot of people don't know about are Karma K-10's. It's insane the quality that they let out for the price. They're not bright like a lot of cheap "overhead" condenser mics. check them out.
