Everyone by now should have a linkedin account created and actively seeking new network links.
If not, go to this website and start you networking right now:

Create a profile and add as much detail as you can. Include past jobs and education, awards and groups you belong to.
While in your profile, start requesting admission to networking groups. Check out my profile to get an idea of typical ones in our industry. You can also search groups. After being approved to join, you can then post messages and start discussions. It's also a lot easier to request a link from people that are in the same group as you. Give it a try.
